CBSE introducing Library and Information Science as elective subject in Class 11 and 12

We all know that Libraries are playing a very key role for serving the needs of students, professionals and teachers and researchers.  So the CBSE has decided to introduce the "Library and Information Sciencfe" as an academic elective at senior secondary level from the coming academic year 2014-15

So the students of class XI and XII in CBSE schools can now opt for Library and Information Science the the academic year 2014-15.  The subject will be equivalent to diploma level and is going to be introduced on pilot basis in some of the selected schools during the academic year 2014-15.

The course is going to be divided into fixed periods with theory and practicals.  80 marks will be awarded for theory and 20 marks for practicals.  This course will provide some of the basics for those who wants to pursue higher studies in Library and Information science.

The course has the following objectives.
  • Develop basic knowledge  and skills to pursue higher studies in Library science
  • Develop basic understanding of theory and practical part of Library and Information science
  • To develop basic skills which can help to work as Library semi professional in libraries in case of drop out after +2 level
 The course will include lessons on topics like library information society, library resources,  reference and information resources, library computer application and library management.
